QNET’s Parent Company Bags HR Asia Award Again

Global conglomerate, the QI Group’s Malaysia office was among 38 winners of the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2015 held in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. The awards, organized by HR trade journal – HR Asia, saw 220 companies competing to be known as the best workplaces in Malaysia and Asia. The Malaysian Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Mohd Diah presented the awards to the winners. QI Hong Kong shared the winners’ stage with other notable companies such as Kimberly-Clark, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Starbucks! Nice work!

QI Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Christopher Watson expressed his delight for the achievement and thanked HR Asia Magazine for this prestigious award.

“For the QI Group to be recognized as one of the best companies to work for in Asia is a tremendous achievement. This award will serve as a great encouragement for all of us to continue to place our people at the top of our priorities,” noted Watson.

As part of the judging parameter of the Awards, each participating company nominated at least 20 or 20 percent of their workforce, guided by an Employee Selection Guide to take the HR Asia Employee Input Survey. Forty five QI Malaysia employees participated in the survey.

In total, 5,000 employees were surveyed to determine their motivation, emotional engagement and advocacy of their respective employers.

The summary of findings has been based on three main factors that determine the satisfaction of an individual: the heart, mind and soul. The questions were structured into each of these three categories: employee engagements, workplace culture, advancement and development opportunities as well as other various key points are taken into account from each company so as to produce result that are as accurate as possible.

The winners score high across the board with both the Employee Input Survey and Workplace and Employee Engagement Survey – proving that they are indeed a class above the rest.

“Additionally, it is really an encouragement for the QI Group as it proves that all our efforts have positive outcome and is recognized in the market. We will continue with what we have been doing well and will even do better to strive for further excellence,” added Watson.

Commenting on the most important factors that contributed to winning this award, Watson pointed out that the QI Group believes in employee engagement and puts that into action through the management philosophy, mission, culture creation, policy setting, employee benefits and development, as well as corporate social responsibilities.

The QI Group is a diversified multinational entity catering to varied businesses that include education, hospitality, direct selling, financial services and retail. QNET Family Turns 17 Today

On this day, 16 years ago, a group of people found themselves at crossroads, having had their faith shaken and with the responsibility of 2000 people in their hands. They took a leap of faith and made a decision that not just altered the course of their lives, but also the lives of many others.

Led by visionaries, they started with nothing but a dream and the belief that they could make a difference in the lives of those who had put their faith in them.

16 years later, they are still going strong. On our anniversary today, our founders, Dato' Sri Vijay Eswaran and Joseph Bismark tell us why they embarked on this journey, why they do what they do, why they keep going up against all odds and why they continue to believe.

Hear our founders Vijay Eswaran and Joseph Bismark share their immense passion and humility as they reflect on the journey that is QNET.

QNET4U

Are you a leader?

If you have a screaming ‘yes’ in mind, I have a follow-up question: How do you define the term ‘leader’?

This is a very important word in network marketing. Your career in network marketing depends on your leadership – the ability to duplicate your success through the success of the people you empower. These people are your success and they are the key in growing your organisation.

HOW DO YOU SPOT BUSINESS BUILDERS?
Smart prospecting. Your prospects give you an idea of what kind of distributors they will be. You must know them and have a plan for each of them, while respecting their own personalities and needs. After your prospects become distributors, what do you want them to be?

Product Distributors
These are people in your organisation who are really just after the discounts they get for the products for their own personal use.

Part-Time Distributors
These people prefer to earn extra income from their QNET business. Their nine-to-five jobs are still their main source of income, by choice.

Regular Distributors
Their QNET business is their only source of income. They work hard and earn regularly based on methods that work for them.

Business Builders
They are successful distributors who get addicted to seeing their success through the success of other people in their own organisation. These people earn steady income, week after week. Because of the level of success, they tend to stay in the business longer than the others.

Want more business builders in your organisation globally?

Father To Son

Following is a letter to his son from a renowned Hong Kong TV broadcaster cum Child Psychologist. The words are actually applicable to all of us, young or old, children or parents. This applies to daughters too. All parents can use this in their teachings to their children.

Dear Son ,

I am writing this to you because of 3 reasons.....

1. Life, fortune and mishaps are unpredictable, nobody knows how long he lives. Some words are better said early.

2. I am your father, and if I don't tell you these, no one else will.

3. What is written is my own personal bitter experiences that perhaps could save you a lot of unnecessary heartaches. Remember the following as you go through life .....
  • Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I. To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really likes you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.
  • No one is indispensable, nothing is in the world that you must possess. Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what/who you love most.
  • Life is short. When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.
  • Love is but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness.Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.
  • A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life. One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags!
  • I do not expect you to financially support me when I am old, neither would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether rich or poor.
  • You honour your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.
  • I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but I could never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard! There is no free lunch.
  • No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know if we would meet again in our next life.

 Your Dad

9 Things I Learned from Talking to 9 Millionaires

Jordan Fried is an Internet entrepreneur based in Budapest, Hungary. He’s the co-founder and CEO of a startup company called Buffered VPN. He’s also a CrossFit addict and personal development junkie.

I read this wonderful article written by him, where he is bang on target with his observations and advice. Reproducing it, word by word.

*******************

When I began interviewing business leaders for my new podcast The Inbox Inspiration, I didn’t realize the impact it would have on me. Getting the opportunity to talk to dozens of successful, inspiring individuals has been nothing short of incredible.

Through our conversations, I got VIP access to some of their secrets and advice, what motivated them, what helped them to get where they are today.

Here are nine of their best success lessons (so far!), from them to me to you:

1. You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. My mom always used say, “Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.” And she was right on—because millionaires surround themselves with other millionaires.

If we really are the sum of the people we surround ourselves with, it’s so important to surround yourself with the right ones. Successful people are always networking with each other at events, conferences and mastermind groups.

2. Money in itself won’t make you happy. But money can buy you the freedom to do the things that can make you happy. True happiness comes from filling your time and your days with meaningful pursuits that you’re passionate about.

I’ve met rich people who are incredibly unhappy and poor people in Third World countries who are some of the happiest people I’ve ever encountered. The point is that it’s possible to be happy right now, whether you have $20 or $20 million. By being grateful for what you have, for being alive and for having this day, you’ll be more present and have better perspective.

3. “It’s not about the goal. It’s about becoming the type of person that can accomplish the goal,” the great Tony Robbins said. He probably knows what he’s talking about.

Most millionaires will tell you it’s not so much about making the money; it’s about growing as a person, growing your business to a point where it’s capable of making money. The journey is far more valuable than the destination.

And once you’ve arrived, the question becomes, Now what? That’s why it’s so important to enjoy the ride and be grateful for how far you’ve come and what you’ve achieved so far.

4. Get a mentor so you can get growing. Almost every successful person you ask will tell you they had a mentor at some point along the way.

Find someone you admire, look up to—someone who’s where you want to be—and ask them for guidance to help you improve who you are and what you want to become. With their advice, you’ll learn best practices, you’ll be challenged, you’ll be better prepared to succeed.

5. Like to learn. Every entrepreneur and successful person I’ve met is a lifelong learner. They understand the importance of constantly improving, constantly growing.

Driven people self-educate through books, audiotapes, online courses, seminars…. They’re determined to always learn new skills, to keep developing as a person—to never become stagnant. They never stop.

6. Two (or three or four) income sources are better than one. Millionaires know how to put their money and resources to work for them. And almost all of them have at least two more sources of income—investments in financial securities, real estate, angel investing, partnerships.

While multiple sources of income certainly help them increase their wealth, they are laser-focused on one income stream first then diversify once they’ve hit a level of stability.

7. Hate the gym? Well, learn to hate it a little less. Almost every millionaire I’ve interviewed has some sort of rigorous workout routine—weightlifting, marathons and triathlons, running. They’re elite in business and at the gym.

There’s a correlation between breaking down barriers in fitness and breaking them down in business and in your mind. They’re both about strength and confidence, discipline and commitment. Weak won’t cut it. So get workin’ on your fitness—and the rest will seem a little less daunting.

8. Read—a lot. I’ve yet to meet a millionaire who doesn’t do a lot of reading. And I’m not talking about Harry Potter or Hunger Games. I’m talking books with real, practical tips—for personal and professional growth, for people who want to constantly improve themselves and their businesses.

Books are a great way to learn from successful people who may have been where you are now and have something valuable to teach you. It’s like having some of the best business minds of our generation mentor you. Read a lot and read often.

9. Write down your experiences. You don’t have to blog to be a millionaire. But it wouldn’t hurt. A lot of successful people are getting their start from blogging.

It’s a powerful tool, because by documenting your journey and inspirations, you go through a sort of self-discovery, while also growing your reputation and business. If you’re not ready to share everything on a public blog, try keeping handwritten journals instead. The introspective writing process reminds you of what you’ve been through and where you want to go. And writing down your goals is an incredible way to make sure they happen.

Jim Rohn said it best: “It is challenging to be a student of your own life, your own future, your own destiny. Don’t trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across something important, write it down. Take the time to keep notes and to keep a journal” (or in my case, a podcast or blog!).

Air-Pure............The Essential Necessity

And, here is the news as it appeared in the Times of India edition of 8 Feb 2015.

Quote:

Soaring pollution pushes up sales of air purifiers
Shobita Dhar, TNN | Feb 8, 2015, 02.26AM IST

Deteriorating air quality in India became a talking point during US president Barack Obama's recent visit to the Capital. The statistics are certainly grim. For example, Bangalore's air on any given day is as toxic as the smoke from six cigarettes a day while inhaling Delhi air is equivalent to puffing 20 in a day, according to a study by the United Nations Environment Program.

Little wonder that sales of air purifiers have shot up. An air purifier is a small portable machine that removes bacteria, virus and particulate matter that can be inhaled. For the same amount of power a ceiling fan uses, it strips the air of major pollutants including dust, pollen, mould, dander and tobacco smoke using various filtration techniques.

There's no official scientific study to confirm that air purifiers can provide relief from breathing disorders. But that hasn't affected sales. Shashank Sinha, senior general manager of marketing at Eureka Forbes, says its sales have been growing 60% to 70% year on year over the past two-three years.

Whether scientifically proven or not, consumers are looking for clean air options. Jayati Singh business head, air purifiers, at Philips says that enquiries shot up by 20% over the past six months. Philips launched its range, priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 49,000, last year. "At present 50% of our buyers are expats but Indians too are exploring this technology," says Singh. Delhi and Bangalore dominate the sales of Philips air purifiers.

Sharp air purifiers are priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 30,000. "We sell 1,100 to 1,200 units a month," says Shuvendu Mazumder, national product manager at Sharp. "We are selling the most in Delhi NCR, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Bangalore and Mumbai. Forty per cent of our sales are to individual customers and of them 70% usually have a sick person at home."

These devices also come in a high-end variant. Vijay Kannan, head of Blueair India, a Swedish brand, says that their product costs between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh. Recently, the US embassy in Delhi purchased 1,800 Blueair purifiers for its staff. Now hotels, too, are offering allergy-free rooms that come equipped with heavy duty air filters. The ITC Maurya in Delhi, for instance, introduced 80 'allergy-free' rooms in 2013.

As Mazumder points out, individual sales are mostly driven by an illness in the family. Vikas Singhal, a Delhi-based executive, purchased an air purifier for Rs 30,000 last October for his asthmatic mother and reported relief in her symptoms. For Barun Aggarwal, a director at the Paharpur Business Centre in Delhi, the reason for buying this machine was his five-year-old son's wheezing and congestion. "Now these symptoms are down. My wife who was prone to winter coughs has also not had an attack since we purchased a purifier two years ago," says Aggarwal.

In the early 1990s, most Indians living in urban areas switched from tap water to purified water. And today the water purifier market in India is worth Rs 3,500 crore, according to Technopak Advisors, a market consultancy firm. Could the air purifier become the next RO? It could depend on how effective these gadgets actually prove to be.

While some individual user accounts may be positive, Dr Ashish Jain, senior consultant pulmonologist with Max hospitals in Delhi, says he doesn't recommend air purifiers because there's no study yet conclusively establishing a link between air purifiers and improved respiration. However, he adds: "Considering that the outdoor air is highly polluted - and that affects the indoors as well - one can 'assume' that an air purifier could offer a patient with respiratory issues some relief," says Jain.

The problem, say technology experts, is that the filters inside an air purifier cannot trap all the allergens that can cause asthma. A more worrying issue, though, is the use of the ionization filtration technique in certain air purifier brands. This process emits ozone which, in fact, harms the lungs in the long run. When it comes to breathing clean air we are clearly running short of options.

Unquote.
